On Top of the World and the Temple

hey family, I just wrote you an email, but myldsmail.net sucks and is stupid an deleted my email as I tried to send it.
so this is going to be a short one like the last one, the work here in barrio batallon is going really well, in the next 2-3 weeks we should have 5 baptisms, so the work is going really well, I am realizing how many baptisms we actually have as missionaries here in ecuador.
Today we got to do our service at the temple and while all of the other elderes worked outside, me and 2 other elderes go to enter and we went up to the roof and got to clean, it was so cool from the roof you can see all of guayaquil, its great, I am realizing how good it actually is to be able to go to the temple, even just walking outside of it, is some how refreshing, its really cool. I am also realizing that I should have taken way mor advantage of going to the temple in dallas while I was in texas.
also this week we went to the temple with 2 of our investigatores, they are both women, with husbands that are members less acticve, and are both goijng to marry in the coming weeks. its going to be relly cool, I have been working with one of  the couples since I got here to batallon and finally I am going to get to see the success of my labors.
the sector is still pretty boring nothing is going on, just work work work, I am doing 10 pushups every moring and in 1/12 weeks I want to be doing 15 so we will just have to see how it goes. well I know its real short, but I have nothing else, Stay safe, read your scriptures, pray everyday, I love you all very much LOVE ELDER JONATHAN MATCH

Caught In The Nick of Time

hey you guys are lucky that we came back to the cyber just to finish something, I got your email, but it was close. But thank you for writing me, LOVE Elder Jonathan Match

Movin' On Up and the Shaddows are Fleeing Away

Well Family
another week has gone by and not alot is happening, I’m really sorry but this letter is going to be a really short one nothing is really going on here in el batallon, we are just slugging away, trying to keep the work moving, we have a good number of investigators here, but the quality is a little diminished, so we are just working really hard to find new investigators, and keep it going strong.
Dad you are a ward mission leader, you need to study really hard chapter 13 of ¨preach my gospel¨ it will help you to make a good mission plan and get your work moving at the same time.
I don’t know if I told you guys but elder muñoz only has 10 weeks left in his mission, so I have to do a lot of work and at the same time its my responsibility to keep him from getting trunky, Im not going to lie it is really hard, and were going to have to see how the change goes.
Last week we changed houses, right now we live in a house that is super rich, I seriously feel in this house like it’s the states, there is air conditioning and we have furniture, I need to take advantage of this house for the next 4 weeks because I don’t know if I will be there after that time.
Something funny happened the other night though, we were going to sleep, and my comp said, elder match what is that shadow on the wall, it was a really weird shadow, and so we set out to find the cause, for 10 minutes we could not figure it out, it was starting to freak us out because it would move every now and then. Finally I saw that the speakers of elder muñoz have a light and it was the shadow of the leg of the bed, so after minutes of adjusting everything and kinda freaking out, it was just the leg of the bed.
Well I love you lots and know that Im praying for you every day Stay safe Love Jon

It's a HEAT WAVE with a CHANCE of RAIN

Hey family,
Wow I wish I could be there with you guys in Texas right now, not because I want to go to my house but because I don’t want to have to deal with the ridiculous amount of heat that we are having, but, there’s good news and bad news,  the good news is that the rains have finally started, about 3 weeks late, the bad news is that the rains have finally started, yeah I know that sounds stupid, but it’s great, the climate is defiantly cooler when it’s raining, but we are also soaked to the bone, and the bad part is when it stops raining and the sun comes out, you want to die. You can literally see the steam coming off of the ground as you walk, but that’s winter here in Guayaquil, we’ll have to see, if I get to go to the mountains pretty soon here I will get to be in the cold, literally the cold where you have to sleep with blankets and everything, if not, oh well, Im not going to die.
Yesterday, I’m sorry that I could not write you guys, we had our zone conference, it was really good, in my zone the last change we had 34 baptisms and this change we should be able to have more, so it’s ok dad that you wrote I got to read your email today, but normally I read and write my emails at like 12 or 1 every pday so if you want me to securely get it you should send it before then.
I’m sitting here with one of my investigators here in a cyber, His name is Diego, he’s 23 and really cool, but he’s really hard, he has a lot of faith and really wants to do what’s right but also he has some problems to take care of, but he says hi and hopes your having a good time in Texas.
It’s weird to think of Ben being able to just go outside and play, I know that when I was there in the states he was already doing it, but it still just feels so weird to think of him doing that, even more so because he is starting to talk.
Tell grandma that I hope she is feeling better and that I am praying for her I am feeling way better, sure everyday Ill wake up sore, and I still have a cough, but the satisfaction that we receive as missionaries, is way worth it.
Sorry our sector has been really boring since before Christmas, just everybody here is drunk all day every day, really we leave the house at like 8 in the morning to do something and already there are people drinking its really sad. Its also shown me how blessed I have been to have been raised with the word of wisdom and a strong desire to not drink.
Dad thank all that is good that I haven’t had to eat cow hooves again, I honestly think I won’t be able to swallow it, it is defiantly a blessing to live in the states, we need to remember honestly how good we have it there. My Spanish is going great, I’m just to the point now where I have to force myself to learn something new with the language every day, because if I don’t it’s just going to plain out and it won’t keep getting better. Ill try and do some pushups as well but with the way my shoulder has been feeling I will probably wait a week or so before I really start working it out again.
Sorry that you guys had to freeze your buts off working on the car, But I want you guys to know how much of a blessing it really is to have seasons, and the ability to get a time of hot and cold, its way better than just hot, all the time. Steven study hard for these things that your doing with your medical classes, because if you could go to nationals that would be really  cool it would be a great experience for you.

Well I love you all very much, Ive got a couple of other things to do today, tell Emily that I got her letter and next week I should be able to send hers.
Stay safe, keep the faith, and pray always, Love Elder match

New Year New Companion

Hey Family,
Well just to let you know I am still here in El batallon but elder forero left to be a zone leader in another city, called Milagro. My new companions name is elder muñoz and he is from otavallo in Ecuador, that is where the native Ecuadorians are from. Its really cool has hair down to his nipples and wears it in a braid. Next week Ill send you a picture so you can see, but the thing is is that elder muñoz only has 2 changes left in the mission, so its almost 100 sure that I will leave el batallon in 6 weeks( the next change).
First off, I am really sorry about the whole money thing that has been going on, normally I would not spend 100 dollars a month, the problem is that since I have gotten here in ecuador, I basically started with debts and its just been tough trying to catch up with the money I get from the mission, but I am basically at the point now where I can live only with the money that I get from the church.
Im really glad that you wrote a letter to Spence, I sent him one about a month ago so hopefully I should get his reply any day now. Dad you really need to go see a doctor, let me guess you still have that horrible hernia as well, go now, these things need to get taken car of or your just going to get worse and more tired and more sick, so go.
Im glad that you are being able to fix the Honda, maybe now he will learn to appreciate his car a little bit more now that he had a time with no car, steven you need to have a talk with dad about driving smart, and be humble, he has a little bit more experience driving than you do, and remember steven that even if the car is crappy, its better than no car, just remember that.
Dad about your calling, Get To Work, you cannont I repeat Cannot receive any blessings whatsoever if you are not working for the lord, if you want better health, feed the lords sheep, help to find those members of the lords fold that are lost, I suggest, reading the parable of the prodigal son, or of the lost coin, they will tell of the joy the lord has when even one of his children come back to him, and dad if his joy is great with the one that came back, how much joy will our father in heaven have with the one that helped to bring back or find that one who was lost. You have a calling of great responsibility, but remember dad that you were called to this by a person who received direct revelation from the lord to put you in this calling, the lord knows that you can do whatever you need to in this calling, he doesn’t call people to callings in which they cannot complete the demands of, the lord is putting his trust in you dad, just work really hard, and dad as a missionary for our savior, I promise you that you will not be able to count the number of blessings you will receive., but you have to work. And put complete faith in the lord to fulfill his end and support you in this.
There’s my missionary side coming out.

Mom sorry to lecture you but I am going to help you with one thing about your Spanish, You said Bueno Dios = Good God The phrase that you want to use is Buenos Dias = good morning, Just remember that. Sorry.
Why do you guys need a new tree, did the one that we have break or something?
It was really cool and this yesterday I confirmed another one of our recent converts. I was so nervous giving the blessing in Spanish in front of the entire ward with a microphone in my face, but oh well it went fine, this change for me should be a really good one, it looks like we are going to have 6 more baptisms this change, but we need to work if we don’t do anything we wont see results. Mom remember that its always good to set goals, just take the time out of one of your days, get your journal, and just write them down, its 20 minutes no more. Its really crazy those little kids are going to be so different when I get home, but oh well that’s the mission, Im sending a bunch of photos, mom if you still don’t know how, have Marcie come over and show you how to put the pics on the blog, this week, I also would like to know what the website address is so that I can see it, So if you could do that It would be really cool Some of the pics are just like normal baptism pics and the ones with the statues are the things that they fill with firecrackers and light on fire at midnight on new years.

Speaking of newyears, it sounds like it was a really fun time there in the house. No seriously you need to at least wake dad up at new years, don’t tell me you guys are really getting that old.

New years here was absolutely crazy. At midnight the streets were on fire. There were explosions everywhere, think about it if every house had like 3 which they did, and all the houses are super compacted, for miles and miles, you can imaging what it was like, seriously if you could see a satalite image of Guayaquil at midnight it would look like the whole city s on fire or is burning.

We are working really hard here in my sector, and on Thursday I am moving in to a new house, that is super nice/ rich, its great Ill send pics the next week and it should be really really cool.

I really hope that all is going well at home. That there are no problems and that you are all safe from harm, Stay safe and pray always, I love you all very much and pray for you every day.
Love
Elder Jonathan Match
